Missions

Smith Mills Christian Congregational Church

The Missions Committee sponsored collections for the following missions this past year:

    One Great Hour of Sharing
    Neighbors in Need
    The Giving Tree

For our February 2010 mission’s project we will be asking the youth of the church to get involved with what we are calling, "Sweeten Valentine's Day with the Gift of Bees." Sometimes it is the little gifts that leave the biggest impressions. And though bees may be small, the impact they can make is immense. By pollinating the crops on a family's farm, healthy beehives can double fruit and vegetable yields. And income from the sale of honey, wax and pollen can be put toward food, clothing, medicine and education. The gift of Heifer honeybees represents a bee package, the box and hive and training in the latest beekeeping techniques. Each kit is $30 through Heifer International.

We are continuing to sponsor a child in Haiti named Andie Faustin. The monies                 being used for this endeavor are being obtained through the children's collection         which is collected at Story Time each Sunday. The children are very excited to be a      part of helping/sponsoring a child in need over seas. A valuable lesson about                 charity  and sharing is being taught to our children by being a part of this mission.

Smith Mills Christian Congregational Church continues to volunteer at Market                 Ministries, our local soup kitchen in New Bedford, the fourth Monday of every                 month. We are always looking for volunteers to help with this life sustaining                     mission.

A food basket is collected monthly and blessed by the minister during                                 Communion Sunday and offered to families in need of temporary emergency                     assistance.

For more information about any of our Missions please feel free to call the                          Church.
